How do oil starters work?

They are particularly suitable for machines and drives with high outputs that do not start frequently and require a slow starting frequency. In the rotor circuit of the wound electric motors, the resistance is changed successively by switching off resistors with the aid of power contactors. The resistor consists of a special cast element.

The oil in the starter serves as an energy store and insulating medium, and so the design of a starter combines the advantages of the resistance starter with those of a low-cost heat transfer medium, namely oil. This ensures efficient operation of electric motors in electrical engineering.
